First home defeat of the season against a strong St Neots team, fielding 6 single-figure players combined with some higher handicaps contributing lots of shots. Out first, Jon Parry and Mat "The Postman" Thomson delivered a 3&1 win (that's 6.5 from a possible 7 for Mat).
Defeats then for Steve Torley & Stuart McMillan, Grant Brook & Martin Gregory, Simon Thomas & Paul Starkey and Steve Montague & Jeff Adams sealed the victory for St Neots before Martin Sainsbury & Nigel Skinner brought home a consolation point, winning 3&1. Well fought, everyone.
The Willmotts have continued their fine form in club matches, suffering only one defeat in the last nine outings. A highlight of the campaign was a commanding 6–0 home win over St Neots.
The club match programme concluded on Monday, 22nd, with a well-fought home draw against Wellingborough, bringing a strong season to a close.
The Willmotts Captain and committee would like to thank every golfer who represented the section this year and contributed to such a successful run of results.
County Handicap Shield
A tough away match at Canhoe Wood ended in a narrow 4.5–2.5 loss, following on from a strong 4–3 win against South Beds.
County Scratch League
The final scratch match of the season brought a fantastic 2&1 home victory over Beds & County. That result secures the team a proud runner-up spot overall. A full wrap-up will follow in the next issue.
